Tomorrow morning we have yesteryear’s Baseball with Paul and Fay Tambrino and it is going to be so exciting. Here is what paul says:
To our most FAITHFUL Listeners:
The Past Greats now hold a 3 games to none lead in this best of 9 series; so while it’s not a must win for the Recent Greats they would face elimination in two weeks should they lose game 4 tomorrow.
Mike Torrez will be on the mound for the Recent Greats; he’ll be opposed by Cy young for the Past Greats on Ocean Waves Radio’s, Yesteryears Baseball.
In an 18-season career, Torrez pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals (1967–1971), Montreal Expos (1971–1974), Baltimore Orioles (1975), Oakland Athletics (1976–1977, 1984), New York Yankees (1977), Boston Red Sox (1978–1982), and New York Mets (1983–1984). Torrez’s fastball was his main pitch. In 1980, he tried to be more of a breaking ball pitcher, but was encouraged in following year to return to throwing the fastball more consistently, as that was his strength.
Cy Young (born 1867) was one of the hardest-throwing pitchers in the game early in his career, but after his speed diminished, he relied more on his control. He holds MLB records for the most career wins, with 511, along with most career losses, innings pitched, games started, and complete games. In 1956, one year after his death, the Cy Young Award was created to annually honor the best pitcher in the Major Leagues (later in each League) of the previous season, cementing his name as synonymous with excellence in pitching.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow to hear how the game turns out on Ocean Waves Radio.
